• LeToya Luckett LIVE from DTLR [Exclusive Interview for CNITC]

Written by candice nicole at August 29, 2009 on 11:02 pm in Candice Nicole In The City

First, I would like to thank Brandi (Studio B PR) for getting everything set up for the DTLR event that took place Friday, August 28th feat. LeToya Luckett. LeToya, who just recently released her latest album “Lady Love” was in the DMV to promote the hot album. I, for one have listened to the cd and I enjoy EVERY track. I am not just saying it, I really do enjoy the whole cd and I would highly recommend that you go out and buy it (sold at your local DTLR as well)

For this interview I sought after a guest writer. I am all for someone wanting to work on their portfolio and to get opprtunities in this industry. That brings me to Lee Anderson. I have worked with Lee before (he has covered some of my events and interviewed some clients) He seemed to be the right person for this interview! Below is his recap and then his interview with LeToya. Hope you enjoy!

    RECAP by Lee Anderson:

There is a line of about 50 from the back of the DTLR retail store inside of the Mall at Prince George’s in Hyattsville MD (or as local heads simply call it, PG) all the way to the entrance at the front. Close by, a DJ is spinning cuts from the CD that all the line holders are fidgeting with nervously; excitedly, in expectation of an autograph and a personal moment with the girl that is on the CD cover, one of the hottest women in the game right now, LeToya Luckett. Nikki from Greenbelt Maryland said she wanted to ask her how she dealt with the media and rumors. Kristal from Hyattsville said that she was a singer as well and wanted to know where she got her inspiration to write from, and always be so relatable.  And relatable she definitely is. LeToya walked in, (looking beautiful as always, might I add) and you could feel the excitement in the room rise.  As people began to come up and get their copies of Lady Love, the sophomore effort from LeToya autographed, I noticed the way she interacted with her fans. Even stopping at one point to take the chain off a young fan, Mark from SE DC, whose mother brought he and his siblings to get their copy of Lady Love signed, and putting it on while posing for a picture.  I over heard a couple of other fans leaving the store remarking among them how nice and humble she is. Great way to boost sales LeToya, just be likeable!

Now, that we got the recap out the way, you know that your boy got the interview. Check out my exclusive interview with LeToya Luckett for CNITC.com!

LeToya Luckett Interview by Lee Anderson:

LA: How are you doing today Ms. Luckett, you’re looking well. Nice to meet you.

LL: Thank you, nice to meet you too.

LA: Let’s get right to it. In terms of your growth, from LeToya, to Lady Love, how do you feel that your growth was best exhibited on this album?

LL: Vocally as an artist, mainly. I was so focused on technique with the last album that I didn’t just sing. This time I wasn’t afraid to take chances and try something new.  Personally too with subject matter.  I wanted to make an album that people could relate to, from all aspects. The ins and outs, good and bad of love. Something that the ladies could relate to, as well as the fellas.

LA:  I wanna talk about your cover art for a second. It’s interesting as hell to me. Can you please explain the cover art?

LL: Yes, my stylist designed the cover art. If you look through the whole album insert, you get the different sides and personalities of Lady Love. When you first open it up, you have the pink lady love, she’s happy. But in the back with the blue dress, it’s like she’s sad and heartbroken; another one is sexy. And the front cover is representative of when you first get into a relationship and you just don’t know and it’s like you wanna expose yourself, but you wanna protect your heart.

LA: Ok, I feel that! The next two questions, I think are interesting.  You have a lot of fans that have been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the promotion of this album. Would you like to address that at all?

LL: (pause) It wasn’t promoted properly, I ended up doing most of the promotion myself. It was a situation where the people who were entrusted with that, didn’t really know the product. Had they known the product and known what they were trying to sell, they might’ve done a better job. You know what I mean? But I made the best of it, and I have great management. Hopefully the music will speak for itself and it’ll be a word of mouth type of thing.

LA: Speaking of which, I noticed on Twitter that there are like 4 or 5 pages that have been put up in promotion of you and your album Lady Love. Did you notice anything social media wise, or maybe employ any social media yourself?

LL: No doubt, they did that! That’s what syced me! The fans online are great… as a matter of fact, Ced who is walking around here, manages my website Letoyaonline.com. He was a fan who had put together a different website, and me and my mom went out and found him, and now look at him!  But I love the fans online.

LA: Ok that’s what’s really good! Last but not least, what can the fans expect next from LeToya Luckett?

LL: My new movies. One is called, ‘Preacher’s Kid’ it will be in theatres Oct. 30 and the other is ‘Five Killers’ with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. That’s scheduled to be released in 2010.

LA: Ms. Luckett, that’s all my questions. Thank you so much for your time.

    LA: You’re welcome, thank you.

RECAP: Don Juan Mixtape Release Party x Signing to JIVE

Written by candice nicole at August 24, 2009 on 10:24 am in Candice Nicole In The City

The man of the hour, NU Ent/Battery Records/JIVE artist Don Juan

I know I am a week later with this recap, but last week was a VERY busy week for Don Juan :o) With that said, here is a mini recap of his mixtape release party. It took place at Pure Nightclub, located on the historic U st on a Monday..yes, a Monday and when I tell you we the spot was PACKED, that was just something easy to say.

The release was hosted by Big Tigger who is also the host of Don Juan’s latest mixtape “Lookie Looky”. There were many key folks in the city in the building as well! It was a great spot for networking and really to just be seen :o) We were joined by Anwan “Big G” Glover (BYB & actor “The Wire”), Deangelo Redman (MTV’s Making the Band), Chris (BET’s College Hill”, Boris (VH1’s I wanna Work for Diddy), Wil “Onix” Lash (I Love New York),  and most of all the HOTTEST artists in the DMV!

I absolutely LOVE this pic! It’s DJ Heat, Big Tigger & Don Juan

The audience was also treated to a wonderful surprise when many of the artist there got on the mic to rock the place! Don Juan of course performed his single “Lookie Looky” and got the crowd going then Mr.Beam Up himself KingPen Slim got on the mic to do his single “Powder 4 Da Babies” and then “DMV Ego” was performed which includes Don Juan, Pro’Verb, Whitefolkz (who was eating his jumbo slice and missed it LOL), Lyriciss & KingPen Slim. It really was a night to remember. Don’s parents were there to show support and the vibe in PURE was pure positivity and it was just a AMAZING night! One that will definitely go down in history as one of the BEST mixtape release parties in the city! :o) It’s “LOOKIE LOOKY”

    SYNOPSIS:

Five talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio star in this remarkable true-life coming of age story about uncommon friendship in the face all too common adversities.
